GDC Successfully Appeals to UN Human Rights Council

GDC signed a joint statement to request the UN Human Rights Council during its 41st session (June 24 – July 12, 2019) to respect, protect, and fulfill adolescent and youth sexual reproductive and health and rights.

The statement was signed by over 300 CSOs and drafted by the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW), AWID, Centre for Reproductive Rights, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, HIVOS, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Plan International, Rutgers, Sexual Rights Initiative, Swedish Association for Sexuality and Education, and Youth Coalition.  Read More

Victory Decision in Kenya

The Nairobi High Court decided that the Director of Medical Services and Ministry of Health violated the rights of Kenyan women and girls when they arbitrarily withdrew the “Standard and Guidelines for Reducing Morbidity and Mortality from Unsafe Abortion in Kenya” and thus created uncertainty regarding the legal status of abortion and discouraged practitioners from providing abortions out of fear of prosecution.   Read More
