GDC/Colombia Defines Obstetric Violence

In the article, “We have to talk about obstetric violence“*, the GDC/Colombia team explains that obstetric violence is dehumanizing medical abuse that occurs during reproductive heath care provision, which results in lost of autonomy and freedom of choice regarding ones body and sexuality and thus negatively impacts quality of life. Further, obstetric violence is linked to other forms of discrimination including race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, and/or socioeconomic class.
