Dr. Mofokeng’s Op-Ed on Unsafe Abortion in South Africa

In her op-ed titled It takes more than pro-choice laws to end deaths from unsafe abortions, GDC/South Africa co-lead doctor Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng shares factors that inhibit access to safe, legal abortion despite South Africa’s liberal abortion laws.  These include a lack of information about abortions, that abortion is legal, and where to obtain an abortion, a lack of public sector providers and facilities willing to provide abortions, and a lack of leadership to hold those accountable to providing abortions and to prevent and halt clandestine abortions.
