Evidence-based Recommendations to Improve Reproductive Healthcare for Incarcerated Women

Date: September 2017 Resource Type: Array Publications

This paper describes standards for evidence-based reproductive healthcare for incarcerated women in the US, but its recommendations are grounded in a human rights framework that can be applied globally. It identifies five domains of reproductive healthcare: routine screening, menustration-related concerns, prenatal and postpartum care, contraception and abortion, and sexually transmitted infections. The recommendations emphasize the intersections between the criminal justice system and dignity and self-determination of incarcerated women.

Advocating for access to safe reproductive health care for all.
